Nature’s Discount is a nutrition center store. It is a franchise with branches in other countries like USA, Barbados, St. Lucia and others. The organization is also a N.V (Naamloze vennootschap), which is the Dutch term for a public limited liability corporation. Nature’s Discount is located in two areas in St. Maarten. One of the branches is located in a constantly active traffic and business area of Welfare Road Cole Bay, opposite the Taste Factory and Boathouse Restaurant and the other in Philipsburg on the Cannegieter street. The location idea for both stores are to lure the public into the store after their guilty consumption of unsafe foods and odorous air.
One of the managers of the health food store stated that she considers herself as an educator as well as a business person and said it bothers her when people are unwilling to change their poor eating habits. Their goal for Nature’s Discount is “to improve the health of the society we live in”. While every person who walked into her is a potential customer she instead becomes their friend or their next door neighbor.
Herbal teas, cosmetics, vitamins, sports and nutrition, men, women and children’s health products to name a few are sold to the public. The business ensures that emphasis is placed on each client by making time available for them.
The chain of distribution for Nature’s Discount is indirect because it links the producer with the consumer through two main intermediaries: the wholesaler and the retailer. The producer sells the goods to the wholesalers in large quantities. The wholesaler then breaks down the large quantities for the redistribution to retailers (Nature’s Discount) who further break it down for sale to consumers (walk-in-customers).
